A Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased pocket watch made for the American market, circa 1870. With double train independent centre seconds and 1/4th second diablotine. An engine turned case with a reeded band and a hinged gold cuvette with a dedication inscription. White enamel dial, radial narrow Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost seconds divided into fourths, subsidiary quarter second jump diablotine and blued steel spade hands. Nickel movement, 23 jewels, pallet fork and escape wheel with gold caps, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bi metallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, two train, independent seconds activated by a push piece in the band.
