Gold half hunting cased complicated chronograph by Henry Capt

A rare, heavy Swiss minute repeating half hunting cased pocket watch with chronograph, perpetual calendar and moon phase, circa 1902. 18 carat gold polished case with a gold dome, pusher for chronograph at 12, slide for repetition at 6 and case maker’s punch mark MF (Meylan Frères). White enamel dial with Roman hours, Arabic minutes, subsidiary dials at 3, 6, 9 and 12 for the date, moon phase/seconds, day and month, chronograph, auxiliary seconds and blued spade hands. 1/2 plate movement, frosted, gilt, with ground and bevelled chronograph steel parts, ratchet wheel, wolfteeth winding wheels, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, screw compensation balance and counterpoised lever.

Henry Capt (1773 – 1841) Capt was an independent watchmaker who specialised in watches with additional functions such as musical watches and automatons. Capt’s son Henry continued the business and won first prizes of the Geneva Observatory in 1878 and 1879; in 1882 he won the first prize for a palladium spring.
