A shop window display piece and oversized model of an eight day hebdomas pocket watch, possibly made by Aubry, Graizely & Co. in la Chaux-de-Fonds, in Switzerland, circa 1900. The case of this watch was crafted from burnished iron (gunmetal) and the back cover can be opened and used as a stand, so this item can also be used as a table clock. The original enamel dial features Arabic hour numerals and black hands and the movement is fitted with a lever escapement.

Hebdomas pocket watch
A Hebdomas pocket watch is a famous Swiss timepiece characterized by its eight day power reserve and a distinctive “open heart” design that reveals the internal balance wheel on the dial. Invented in 1888 by Iréné Aubry, the name “Hebdomas” comes from the Greek word for “seven” or “week,” highlighting that the watch only needs to be wound once every eight days.
