A fine, rare Swiss full hunter cased pocket watch – CHRONOMETER – with pivoted detent escapement, circa 1890. Made for the Spanish market.
18 Carat gold, engine turned, tiered, à goutte case with engraved cartouche, engraved and signed gold cuvette, early stem winding system and case maker’s punch mark “HL”. Silver frosted and costly florally engraved dial with applied floral gold decoration, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds and paste set hands. Frosted gilt 4/5 plate movement, screwed gold chatons, screw compensation balance.

Fritz Rüsser & Cie. was a watch manufacturer in La Chaux-de-Fonds around 1880 and was founded by Fritz Rüsser around 1850. The company won a silver medal at the world exhibition in 1878. At the chronometer competition in Neuchâtel in 1882, the company won a third prize in category “B” from the “Association Ouvrière” of Le Locle. The business partner was Paul Léon Schoeffer and married to Louise-Sophie Rüsser.
