A fine Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel and diamond-set beetle-form keyless cylinder pendant watch with concealed dial and corresponding chain, circa 1890. A beetle-shaped case, the spring-loaded wings with translucent blue enamel over engine-turning and rose-cut diamond-set, opening to reveal the dial, the neck is black enamelled and set with diamonds, rose-cut ruby eyes and a hinged realistically cast and chased underside. A glazed cuvette.
White enamel dial with radial blue Arabic numerals and red 12, gilt dot outer minute track and gold spade & whip hands. Gilt movement with bar calibre, eight jewels, a cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance, flat balance spring and an index regulator.
