Gold open faced pocket watch by Auguste Saltzmann

A fine and rare Swiss gentleman’s pocket watch, experimental lever with stoppable Seconde Foudroyante and stoppable independent centre seconds, circa 1880. This pocket watch features an 18 carat gold tiered case with a reeded band. The case is numbered, signed and bears the case maker’s punch mark JB. The enamel dial is also signed and displays radial Roman hours, along with additional features such as a 1/4 seconde foudroyante, independent jumping centre seconds, and browned Breguet gold hands. The watch’s movement is a 2/3 plate design, pierced and keywind. It is chatoned, rhodium plated, and adorned with stripe decorations. The movement includes 30 jewels and features a special inscription: Patented June 1858 Isochronal vibrations. It also incorporates screwed gold chatons, a gold screw compensation balance, and an experimental lever known as the Independent quarter seconds lever.
