Gold open faced musical cylinder watch by Breguet et Fils
–
A large Swiss/French gold three-train musical and half-hour striking clock watch, circa 1830. The music plays on the hour, half-hour, and on-demand. The clock watch features a gilded movement with an inverted cylinder escapement, a plain gold three-arm balance, three standing barrels for music, going and strike trains, a polished steel repeating rack visible on the backplate, and music playing on a pinned disc by tuned tines. It also includes a white enamel dial with the signature Breguet, Arabic numerals, an outer minute ring, blued steel moon hands, and an enamel-painted musical score.
–
The gold case has milled bezels and band, a plain polished back, a trip repeat button through the pendant, a slide for silence/music beneath the bezel at 10 o’clock, and a strike/silent lever marked to the edge of the cuvette. The gilt metal cuvette bears the signature Breguet et Fils no. 16907 and has four apertures for winding trains and setting hands. The case back is marked with French control marks and PC within an oval cartouche, along with further indistinct marks and the number 16615.

The movement is functioning, with music playing loudly and clearly. The music and strike activate on the hour and a half hour, but the repeat function is not calibrated correctly and requires attention. The strike/silent and musique/silence levers are both operational. The trip repeat is functional from the pendant’s button, but it is not syncing correctly. The dial has a scratch at the edge between 11 and 12 o’clock but otherwise appears to be in good overall condition. The case is in a re-polished condition with some minor indentations to the bezels, and the milling to the band remains well-defined with some small marks.
