Gilt oignon verge watch by Gaudron

A fine Louis XIV Oignon, made by the Court watchmaker of the Duc d’Orlean and the King of France, Gaudron Paris, circa 1710.
A gilt and splendidly engraved Oignon case, armor with medal monogram cartouche on the back, unengraved, signed verge movement with silvered decoration, Egyptian pillars, big and steep fusee, probably replaced verge cage, probably original enamel dial (minimal hairlines), hands presumably also replaced, rare and decorative chatelaine with seal pendant and key.

Pierre Gaudron was considered as an outstanding watchmaker. He was the son of Antoine Gaudron (1) and brother of Antoine Gaudron (2). Gaudron worked in Paris between 1690 and 1730 and produced watches on behalf of the government. He was the court clockmaker of the Duc d’Orleans and the King of France. He became watch master in 1695.
