Hunting cased pocket watch by Constantaras Freres

A very rare gold/enamel Swiss hunting cased watch with diamonds “Star of Constantinople”, probably owned by Sultan Mehmet V. (MEHMET REŞAD), the penultimate Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, circa 1909.
14 carat gold case, enameled on both sides with typical Ottoman decoration, pink, green, white and blue; spring lid with high-grade diamonds, star shape and back lid with Ottoman symbol. Dome inscribed “CHRONOMETRE”, signed Constantaras Freres Constantinople, Joalliers en Chef de S.M. XXe Sultan. Matching numbers on case and movement. Nickel-plated Ankerchronometer movement; also inscribed “CHRONOMETRE”. White enamel dial with Ottoman numerals and blued steel hands. Decorative and extravagant box, with silk.

Mehmed Reşad (2 November 1844, Istanbul – 3 July 1918, Istanbul) was the 35th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. It is known that the company Constantaras Freres, Constantinople, delivered at least 2 pocket watches for the Sultan Mehmet V in 1909. Another one of these watches was sold in November 2015 in Dr. Crott auction for more than € 30,000.
