Ball shaped pendant and brooch watch

A rare quality, very small Boule de Genève with brooch made in Switzerland, circa 1890. The numbered, open faced case of this ball shaped pendant watch is crafted from 18 carat gold, platinum and translucent blue enamel and the band is set with diamonds, winding and hand setting is done by turning the upper half of the case. The associated gold brooch is set with -sapphires, the white enamel dial has blue Arabic hour numerals, except for the 12 o’clock which is red and gold hands. The fine miniature movement has a lever escapement.

These exceptionally fine watches were produced between 1865 and 1920, primarily by Geneva based manufacturers, most notably Patek, Philippe. The remarkable acclaim surrounding the elegant Boules de Genève sparked a surge of orders from royalty across the globe. Among Patek, Philippe’s distinguished clients were Prince Hussein Kamil of Egypt in 1887 and Empress Teresa of Brazil in 1888, along with many others.
