A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold open faced keyless lever pocket watch with linear triple calendar and moon phases, circa 1880. A polished case with date correctors and hand setting buttons on the band. The hinged gold cuvette engraved with technical details within an engine turned border.

White enamel dial with radial Roman hour numerals, outer gold dot minute divisions, subsidiary seconds with concentric moon phases at 6 o’clock, an aperture for the linear days of the week, date and months, fancy gold pierced hands. A rhodium plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 17 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, gold wheel train, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel balance spring with a terminal curve and an index regulator. Signed LeCoultre on the dial plate.

The linear digital calendar or so-called American (perpetual) calendar is a calendar in which the date is displayed in a single linear aperture, allowing for a legible dial to be read at a glance. This type of display was invented in the early Art Deco period and is most often found in watches destined for the Anglo-American market. This kind of calendar became popular once again after the Second World War.
