Gold astronomic lever pocket watch by J. Rossel & Fils
–
A highly interesting Geneva gold hunting cased pocket watch with perpetual calendar, retrograde date and moon phase, circa 1867. This astronomical watch features an 18K gold à-goutte hunting case with case number 7291. The case is decorated with a raised noble coat of arms, and the decoration is not screwed or applied as usual but instead worked into the case. It also has a noble crown with nine prongs and a signed and numbered dome. The watch has a fine Ankerchronometer movement, wolf’s toothing, a specially balanced lever, and a very early version of a real perpetual calendar with retrograde date and moon phase. The enamel dial has radial Roman numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary dials for the months at four, seconds at seven, aperture for the day of the week at six, moon phases at twelve, and retrograde date sector below. The watch also has blued steel hands and is in working order.
