Important, highly complicated gold lever watch by Schwob Freres & Co.

A very fine and extremely rare, large and heavy, keyless Swiss clock watch, with carillon trip-minute-repeating and Grande Sonnerie, circa 1890. Carillon based on patent 7832, Schwob Frères La Chaux-De-Fonds/ Louis Brandt & Frère. Engine turned, 18 Carat yellow gold, à goutte case. Sonnerie/Silent selection lever in the bezel, repeating with three polished hammers on three gongs activated by a trip button on the band. Enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track, subsidiary dial for the seconds and blued spade hands. Rhodium plated movement with 35 jewels, two train with tandem winding, straight line counterpoised lever escapement.
Case signed and numbered.

This highly complicated full hunter cased watch is a masterpiece of Swiss watchmaking. The carillon movement after the patent of Louis Brandt & Frère was used by several important watchmakers around 1895-1900 for grande sonnerie pocket watches, for example Louis Elisée Piguet, H. Barbezat-Bole, Louis Audemars and also Schwob Frères in La Chaux-De-Fonds.
