Gold, enamel and diamond set scarab form watch
–
A Swiss gold, enamel and diamond set keyless pendant watch in the form of a scarab, circa 1880. The watch features an unsigned oval gilded movement with wolf’s tooth winding, cylinder escapement and flat three arm balance. The dial is white enamel with Roman hour numerals and a red 12 o’clock along with gold hands. The case is made of 18 carat gold in the form of a scarab with realistic chasing and engraving on the back depicting the insect’s abdomen and legs. The translucent red enamel covered wings are highlighted with black enamel spots, diamond set outlines and a neck, the front legs form the pendant. A pusher at the base of the wings opens to reveal the dial, ruby set eyes and a pusher for hand setting to the left of the beetle’s neck. The case back is hinged and opens to reveal a glazed cuvette.

The movement is running smoothly and the hands are adjusting correctly. The dial and case are both in good condition. The chased and engraved abdomen and legs retain a very good definition and the enamel overall appears to be in good condition, with only a few small scratches and minor chipping to the small panel around the pusher for opening the wings.
