A very fine and rare, probably, English 18K gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1780. A Louis XVI case, the front bezel is translucent blue enamelled decorated with small white enamel dots, a concealed hinge, on the back a finely painted enamel scene of a maiden and her lover in classical dress surrounded by gold engraved floral pearl-set decoration surmounted by a white enamel cartouche with a flower bouquet, outer blue guilloché enamel decorated border.

White enamel dial with upright Roman hours, outer minute divisions, Arabic quarter-hour numerals and gold hour and minute hands. A hinged gilt-brass full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, micrometric potence adjustment, plain gilt-brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, engraved gilt-brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece, silver regulation disc. Dial and movement signed.
