A Swiss 18 Carat yellow gold, enamel and diamond set open faced Art Nouveau lady’s pendant watch, circa 1907. Round shaped case, the hinged back with a polychrome enamel painting in the centre showing a young girl with a cornucopia surrounded by diamonds and an outer engine turned red enamelled border with applied gold scrolls. A translucent red guilloché enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute dots and Louis XV hands, signed T & E Dickinson Buffalo NY. Rhodium plated movement with going barrel, keyless winding, straight-line lever escapement, moustaches, compensated balance, blued steel flat hairspring, eight adjustments.
Dial, case and movement signed. Accompanied by a contemporary 18 Carat yellow gold and enamel brooch and an Extract from the Archives.

T & E Dickinson, Buffalo, NY was an American jeweller and watchmaker. Thomas Dickinson (1820-1896) came to Switzerland in 1836 with his parents from Leicester, England. After working as a journeyman for a short time, he opened his shop at 370, Main Street in 1849. The company later moved to 254, Main Street. In 1866 Mrs Elizabeth Dickinson (1838-1925) became a partner. On September 17th, 1919. The Dickinsons submitted plans for a new building at 618-620, Main Street with an estimated $88,000. The store remained in that location until 1949 when they moved to Delaware Avenue. T. & E. Dickinson’s Jewelry Store was Buffalo’s premier jewellery operation. It contained one of the largest collections of jewellery in the country. The company supplied watches by Patek Philippe and Eduard Koehn. The son Alfred I (†1915) took over the business with his mother in 1896. Later, Alfred I’s sons in the jewellery business, were Harald H. Dickinson, H. Alfred H. Dickinson and John R. Dickinson. The company remained in business until 1965, the last owner being great-grandson Alfred Dickinson III (1919-2011).
