Charles Auguste Breitling was the son of Jacob Martin Breitling or Jacques Martin Breitling a baker in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Breitling family originally came from Gechingen in Baden-Württemberg. Jacob Martin was the grandfather of Léon Breitling. Charles Auguste was then also an uncle of Léon Charles Auguste born on October 17, 1810. His mother was Catherine Laederich. He married Frédérique Laederich (1811-?) on July 9, 1838. Frédérique was possibly family from his mother. From this marriage, a daughter, Cécile Breitling, was born in 1846. Charles Auguste founded a watch shop in Le Locle around 1840 called Breitling-Laederich. Some surviving watches are also engraved with Breitling-Laederich La Chaux-de-Fonds. He exported many watches to America. Charles Auguste Breitling’s date of death is not known.
