Gold Renaissance style ladies’ watch

A very fine and elegant Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel, pearl and diamond set Renaissance style keyless ladies’ pendant watch, circa 1890. The oval matte gilt movement, 28 x 23 mm, with eight jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, a cylinder escapement, plain three arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring and an index regulator.

Oval white enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, outermost blue Arabic five minute numerals and original blued steel spade hands. The oval case with enamelled scalloped decoration, a beaded band, scroll terminals, of which the lower is set with five rose cut diamonds, the upper articulated for the winding crown and with a pearl set suspension loop. The hinged and sprung front is finely painted on enamel showing Una and the Lion and featuring a graduated pearl set border, the interior with a glazed aperture for a photograph, the hinged back with a polychrome enamel scene of three children on a mossy bank against the night sky. A further hinged gold cuvette.
