An early Swiss 18K gold and enamel hunting cased lever pocket watch, circa 1865. Very fine lever movement, 19 jewels, wolf’s toothing, gold chatons. Decorative silver and gold champlevé dial with Roman hours, sunk subsidiary dial for the constant seconds and fine steel hands. Engraved case, painted enamel on both sides, a depiction of the famous painting Madonna della Sedia on the front, the back with a flying seagull on engine-turned ground, case maker’s punch JV. Case numbered, dial signed Bernard on the back, cuvette signed, movement signed and numbered, case and movement with matching numbers.

The Madonna della Sedia or Madonna della Seggiola is a painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael from the year 1513-1514 depicting Mary and the Christ child, it is part of the Palazzo Pitti collection in Florence now.
