Gold  open faced chronometer watch

A fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold open faced chronometer pocket watch, circa 1930. Solid, polished and engraved case with Art Nouveau geometric pattern, the back with cloisonné enamel scene depicting three horses on a light green background. Champagne-coloured dial with an engraved centre, black painted Breguet numerals and blued steel poire hands. Gilt movement, 15 jewels, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator.
Dial signed, case numbered.

Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects with coloured material held in place or separated by metal strips or wire, normally of gold. In recent centuries, vitreous enamel has been used, but inlays of cut gemstones, glass and other materials were also used during older periods, indeed, cloisonné enamel very probably began as an easier imitation of cloisonné work using gems. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné.
