Gold hunting cased pocket watch in near mint condition
–
A Swiss rare gold hunting cased pocket watch with a cover winding mechanism in near mint condition, circa 1880. Winding the watch through the lid is a mechanism that uses the energy released by closing the front lid – one could call this a very early type of automatic winding system. The dome is engraved: Médaille D’argent Paris 1867 Système Remontoir et Misse a L’heure Breveté.
This watch consists of an 18-carat gold case, a white signed enamel dial with Roman numerals, a sunk dial for the seconds, and decorative hands. It has a bridge movement, a club-tooth lever escapement, S.G.D.G., and a gold screw compensation balance.
