Huguenin & Fils was founded around 1850 by Adolphe Huguenin in Le Locle . The company successfully participated in the Philadelphia World’s Fair in 1876 . In 1877 , the company won a prize in the competition in Neuchatel, the company was already called A. Huguenin & Fils, and was famous for the production of quality watches complications (Seconde Morte), chronographs and chronometers. Through the senses of law of 1879 the brand was in 1880 registered as a manufacturer A. Huguenin & Fils – A. Huguenin & Sons, Le Locle. In 1887 the company was also in Bielregistered. The sub-brand “Nielaschef” is registered in 1914 . In 1926 they received patents for their “Ermeto” and “Hermetic” watches. In 1956 the company was taken over by Hamilton Watch Co. as Hamilton Watch Co. Switzerland. The company continued to exist as a separate brand. The company lasted until 1986 , but the devastating quartz crisis (like many other Swiss quality manufacturers) then had to cease production in 1972 . The Hamilton brand was acquired by the Swiss holding company SSIH.
