A gentleman’s fine, important gold enamel quarter repeating pocket watch for the Chinese market, circa 1815. 18K gold case, the back cover enamelled with a scene of Canton on the Pearl River with traditional Chinese river vessels and Dutch Folly Fort in the foreground and European warehouses (hongs) in the background, half pearl set border on the front and back side; opaque blue enamelled band, pendant and bow set with split pearls, glazed movement: enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, centre seconds, blued lozenge hands. Bridge movement, mirror-polished steel parts on a blued steel ground, keywind, two hammers / two gongs, applied rack strike with mirror-polished steel levers, cylinder escapement, ring balance.
