Humbert-Ramuz & Co., also known as Humbert-Ramuz & Cie., was a Swiss watch manufacturer based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, operating under the brand name Diamant. The company was founded by Charles Humbert and Ulysse Humbert-Ramuz. In 1867, Ulysse Humbert-Ramuz was granted a British patent (no. 2388) for his innovative design of a savonnette pocket watch that could be wound by opening and closing its cover. The following year, he received a US patent (no. 77,213) for the same invention, although it was attributed in America to Henry Hirsch and Seligman Oppenheimer. The company earned a silver medal at the 1867 Paris Exhibition.
–
In 1881, Humbert-Ramuz & Co. won another silver medal at the National Watch Exhibition in La Chaux-de-Fonds. By 1887, the brand name Diamant was officially listed, and on May 31 of that year, the company secured a US patent (no. 363,959) for a transparent dial. The company underwent several name changes, becoming Charles-Humbert Fils in 1888, before reverting to Humbert-Ramuz & Cie. In 1926 and again in 1966, the Humbert-Ramuz & Co. trademark was registered by Jules Bloch. The brand name Avenir initially registered four years after 1888, became a trademark of Auguste Reymond SA in 1973.
