A fine and very unusual Swiss silver open faced triangle form keyless Masonic pocket watch, circa 1930. Solid case, the front bezel with the blue enamelled letters GJB, the back centred by a cast and engraved depiction of Solomon’s Temple surrounded by Masonic symbols. White enamel dial with multicoloured Masonic symbols for the hours, outer minute divisions with blue Arabic five minute numerals, the motto Aime Ton Semblable Tends Lui Une Main Secourable (Love Your Fellow Man Lend Him A Helping Hand in English) in the lower half and blued steel spade hands. Rhodium plated movement with 15 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance adjusted to five positions and a blued steel Breguet balance spring. Case and movement signed.

Théophile Schwab-Loeillet patented a Masonic watch design on February 3rd, 1925, under the name Tempor Watch Co (US patent No. 66542, English patent No. 713821, Swiss patent No. 25265, 34864 and 36889). In 1930, the company was listed as “Schwab & Brandt, formerly Schwab-Loeillet, the only makers of Masonic watches”. They modified the 1925 design, introducing triangular, high quality movements and making the watch much slimmer.
