After a successful career in the United States, Albert Potter moved to Geneva in 1875, dedicating several years to crafting intricate pieces like the present lot. Throughout his career, he invented designs for watch movements, including a quarter repeater and a type of duplex escapement. In Geneva, he had the chance to bring his previous designs and plans to life. According to a May 1882 article in the Horological Journal, Potter claimed to have created drawings and working models for fourteen different types of escapements. His exceptional craftsmanship earned him the respect of his Swiss peers, making him one of the few American watchmakers held in high regard in the Swiss watchmaking industry. His commitment to innovation and precision has solidified his reputation as one of the finest American watchmakers known today.
