An attractive Swiss niëllo silver open faced lever pocket watch made for the Russian market, circa 1895. Delivered to M.P. Kalaschnikoff & Fils in Moscow. ¾ Plate movement, a piston tooth lever escapement and screw compensation balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours, outer minute divisions, Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and spade & whip hands. The niëllo decorated case with an engraved rose gold cartouche on the back. Dial and cuvette signed by the retailer, case and movement numbered.

Around 1900, the watch dealer M.P. Kalaschnikoff had his shop opposite the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia. His clients included Leo Tolstoy, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and other famous and extremely wealthy people of the time.
