An important Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased grande sonnerie trip minute repeating carillon pocket watch, circa 1890. Engine turned case with a Chinese signature and hallmarks, the cuvette is signed Hope Brothers Shanghai and engraved with Genevan gold prize medals. White enamel dial with a gold coloured signature in Chinese characters at 12 o’clock, Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 and golden spade hands. Glazed precision lever movement of excellent quality with quarter hour self strike, grande sonnerie minute repeater carillon with three hammers and two barrels, both wound through the crown, screwed gold chatons and a Chinese signature on the plate.
