Rose gold pocket watch with moon phases

A fine and rare 18 carat rose gold keyless lever pocket watch with linear triple calendar and moon phases made in Switzerland, circa 1890. A polished case with the engraved foliate monogram ET on the back cover and hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, Arabic five minutes, outermost fifths of a second divisions, an aperture below 12 o’clock for days of the week, date and months, subsidiary seconds with an aperture for the moon phases at 6 and yellow gold Louis XIV hands. The frosted gilt movement with 21 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, a counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, steel Breguet balance spring with over coil and an index regulator.

The linear digital calendar or so-called American (perpetual) calendar is a calendar in which the date is displayed in a single linear aperture, allowing for a legible dial to be read at a glance. This type of display was invented in the early Art Deco period and is most often found in watches destined for the Anglo-American market. This kind of calendar became popular once again after the Second World War.
