A remarkable, Swiss heavy gentleman’s complicated pocket watch with minute repeater, alarm and perpetual calendar, circa 1901.
18-Carat gold à goutte case with a signed gold dome, slide for repeating mechanism and slide to set the alarm or silence. Enamel dial with Arabic Empire numerals, sunk subsidiary dial for the seconds, day, date and month indicator with leap year compensation, central alarm hand and blued spade hands. Bridge movement, frosted, gilt, four hammers, three gongs, tandem wind with polished mirror click on the top, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.

The company C. Dégallier was located in Geneva, Rue de la Coratterie 4; the company was active from about 1870 to 1926. From 1916 the company was located at Place de Cornavin 4. The first watch with a Geneva seal was from C. Dégallier, produced on November 30, 1887. From July 21, 1926, the company continued as Edmond Dégallier through Edmond-Théophile Dégallier

Dégallier became known for his pocket chronometer; in 1883, various Geneva companies were represented at the National Exhibition in Zurich, including C. Dégallier. In 1893 the company was also represented at the Chicago World’s Fair.

Charles Grottendieck was a well-known watchmaker with a jewellery and watch shop in Brussels, Belgium. The company was founded around 1850. Grottendieck was also a representative of Patek Philippe, LeCoultre & Cie SA. and Vacheron Constantin.
