Unsigned gold open faced lever watch with register and moon phases
–
A Swiss gold open faced minute repeating perpetual calendar chronograph watch with register and moon phases, circa 1890. The watch features a gilded movement with lever escapement, a highly jewelled, bimetallic compensation balance, polished steel chronograph work partially visible to the backplate, a revolving governor, two polished steel hammers repeating on coiled gongs, and patent number 31798. It has a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, an outer track for minutes and chronograph seconds, four sunken subsidiary dials for day, a 30 minute register combined with month/leap year indication, date and subsidiary seconds with an aperture for moon phases, and blued steel hands.
–
The polished 18 carat gold case has rounded bezels, a glazed cuvette, an adjuster beneath the bezel for day, month, date, and moon phases, and a case back with Swiss hallmarks for 18 carat gold and it is numbered.

The movement is running and repeating, and the chronograph is starting, stopping, and resetting correctly. The minute register is also advancing, and the calendar functions are working. The levers beneath the bezel are all operational, although the date advancement lever is periodically sticking. The dial has hairline cracks on the day of the week and date subsidiaries, and the date subsidiary also has a filled repair in the centre. There is a small surface chip on the outer track at 54 seconds past. The case is in a re-polished condition, with the top tip of the repeating slide showing a tear and a slight gapping to the aperture beneath. The slide itself is slightly loose as well.
