Rose gold chronometer by Georges Bourquin
–
A fine and sophisticated Swiss 18 carat rose gold hunting cased pocket watch chronometer, made at the École d’Horlogerie de Bienne by Georges Bourquin, circa 1877. This exceptional piece has a white enamel dial with radial Roman numerals for the hours, a subsidiary seconds dial, and elegant distaff shaped hands in yellow gold. The tiered à goutte 18 carat rose gold case is partly engine turned, featuring a gold dome lavishly engraved with floral motifs and signed with the dedication Faite à l’Ecole d’Horlogerie de Bienne par Georges Bourquin. The rhodium plated bridge movement is decorated throughout with Geneva Stripes (Côtes de Genève) and fitted with screwed gold chatons, wolf teeth winding wheels, and a large gold screw compensation balance. The spring detent escapement is the most accurate and demanding of all escapement types.
