Silver open faced verge pocket watch
–
A Swiss silver open faced verge pocket watch with alarm and large slow beating balance, circa 1790. The watch features a gilded full plate movement, signed Rosé artiste à Soleure, with a verge escapement, fusee and chain, and a large slow beating balance, along with a decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge. It includes an alarm train with a fixed barrel and a hammer for striking a bell mounted on the inside of the case back. The white enamel dial, also signed Rosé artiste à Soleure, displays Roman numerals, an outer Arabic minute ring, subsidiary seconds, two apertures for winding the alarm and going trains, gold hour and minute hands, and a steel alarm indicator. The silver case has scooped bezels and a plain back.

Movement is running. The alarm train is operating continuously, making it impossible to wind and set the alarm without it sounding repeatedly. There are hairline cracks on the lower right hand side of the dial. Chips around the left winding hole are present. Chips and hairline cracks appear at the edge of the dial between 7 and 8 o’clock. The case shows small marks, scuffs, and scratches throughout, along with slight cracking of the bezel near 4 o’clock.
