Jacques Collomb, a renowned Swiss watchmaker, was born in Geneva in 1608 to parents who were notaries. He married twice and had 15 children, some of whom became watchmakers. Etienne Collomb, one of his sons, married the daughter of another watchmaker, Jean Antoine Dufour. Jacques Collomb passed away in 1695 at the age of 86. His legacy as a master watchmaker lives on in Geneva, where he significantly contributed to the craft. As a skilled artisan, he helped establish the reputation of Swiss watchmaking, which is still renowned today. His precision and attention to detail were unmatched, and his work set the standard for future watchmakers. Jacques Collomb’s life story is a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of Swiss artisans, who have long been at the forefront of horology.
