Silver watch with magnificently decorated movement
–
An exceptionally large pair cased oignon pocket watch made by Denis Dominice in Geneva, Switzerland, circa 1700-1750. Both cases of this watch are crafted from silver. Its white enamel dial features Roman hour markers, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals and gilt openwork hands. The magnificently decorated movement is fitted with a verge escapement, and an extremely high and steep fusee.
The movement is signed.

The maker of this timepiece was already recorded in Geneva around 1685. The original dial was presumably silver and, probably around 1750, replaced by a ‘modern’ enamel one.

Signed: D. Dominice
