Gold and gilt-brass open faced watch by Truitte & Mourie

A fine Swiss verge pocket watch in a shagreen outer case, circa 1790. The timepiece consists of two cases. The outer case is decorated with gilt-brass and shagreen with stud detailing. It also features a large lateral hinge. The inner case is made of 18-carat gold, which is engraved and chased with the case maker’s punch mark ADV and also includes a large lateral hinge. The watch has an enamel dial with radial Roman numerals to indicate hours, radial Arabic numerals for minutes, and Louis XVI-style hands. It has a full plate movement, which is keywind and fire gilt. It features baluster movement pillars, a signed three-arm steel balance, and a finely engraved pierced balance bridge.
