A multicolored gold and enamel Spindeluhr Louis XV with magnifying glass painting, made by Dufalga in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1770. The open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 Carat red and green gold and enamel and has a very fine magnifying glass painting in the original condition, painted in the style of or by JB Favre of Genève on the back lid. The original Louis XV enamel dial has Arabic five minute – and Roman hour numerals and red gold hands. The movement has a verge escapement. The movement is signed.

Dufalga
There are a lot of discrepancies about the identity of Dufalgas in the relevant watchmaker directories. Philippe Cafarello Dufalga (born 1712 France – died 1794 Geneva) was a son of Francois Dufalga, Haut-Languedoc, France. Together with his father Philippe Cafarello he came to Geneva, where he was naturalized in 1745. He was known for making luxurious watches. Probably he worked in Geneva and in Paris, which would explain the two signatures ‘Dufalga à Paris’ and ‘Dufalga à Genève’. Unfortunately, the identity of the case maker ‘HF’ remains unknown. Only a few of these luxurious verge watches are known today, mostly in well known collections and museums. A similar watch can be found in the Louvre Museum.

Favre
JB Favre, was a very famous painter on enamel, 1751-1807. He was born in Geneva, 1751- 1807. He signs a very similar scene on a watch by Terreaux l’Aîné, published in “Orologi nel Tempo” by Luigi Pippa, page 165.
