A rare, heavy English pocket watch from London with alarm via gong and rattle, circa 1817. The watch features an 18K gold polished plain case with a cuvette adorned with a monogram and a reeded middle part. It has an enamel dial with Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track, a subsidiary dial for the seconds with a serpentine second-hand, and gold hands for the time and alarm indication. The watch also includes a full plate keywind movement with one hammer/one gong, cylinder escapement, and a three-arm steel balance. It includes a leather case.

Charles Edward Viner, a renowned British clockmaker, invented a patent for the alarm hand setting via the coaxial, rotating crown in the upper part of the pendant. Viner (1788-1875) finished his apprenticeship with Thomas Savage in London and joined the Clockmakers Company in 1813. He was known for creating high-quality pocket watches, which often featured his own invention, the pump winding mechanism.
