Silver chased and engraved lever watch by Patek Philippe & Co.

A Swiss silver and enamel open faced watch featuring an engraved scene of St. George and the Dragon, circa 1890. This watch features a mechanical movement with a moustache lever escapement, a compensated bimetallic balance, a Breguet balance spring, and a straight line. The chased silver dial showcases foliate decoration, white enamel oval cartouches with radial Roman numerals, an outer white enamel minute track, and Louis XV style hands. The case is made of 800 thousandths silver, chased with foliage and rocaille decoration, with the back depicting Saint George slaying the Dragon, and an interior scene representing Christ in a boat on a rough sea, alongside the words ‘Intempestas Secvritas. These two associated scenes were generally intended to protect travellers, especially pilgrims. The inner bowl is signed Patek Philippe & Co.
