Junod is the oldest watchmaker and jeweller in French speaking Switzerland. The company was established in 1867 by Ami Junod Pattus born in 1842. Under the name Ami Junod Pattus, Fabricant d’Horlogerie he opened a workshop in a place called L’Observatoire in Sainte-Croix. Ami was a renowned and respected master watchmaker and was also given the task of adjusting all the clocks in the village. Each day, the exact time was sent to him by telegraph directly from the Neuchâtel Observatory.
–
In 1872, his son Robert was born. Robert studied watchmaking. In 1873, his second son, Fernand was born. Like his brother, he also studied watchmaking and further heraldic engraving.
–
Ami Junod left his village for Lausanne in 1889. He opened a workshop on Place Pépinet and later a watch, jewellery and gold smithery shop at 7 Rue Centrale, near the River Flon. The shop was registered under A. Junod et Fils.
–
In 1890, together with his two sons, Ami Junod developed a three meter high astronomical clock, one of the most complicated clocks ever made in Switzerland at the time. Today, it is at the Centre International de Mécanique d’Art (CIMA) museum in Sainte-Croix.
–
The company moved to Place Saint-François in the Hôtel des Postes, near the entrance of the Grand Pont in 1900.
–
After Ami died in 1912 at 68, Robert and Fernand took over the business. They renamed it Junod Frères.
