Gold open faced repeating pocket watch
–
A very early open faced pocket watch with repeater and rare case made by Vacheron Constantin SA in Geneva, Switzerland, circa 1840. This watch features a numbered, magnificently engraved 18 carat gold case with a scene believed to depict Lake Geneva on the back lid. The white enamel dial features Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track and gold moon hands. The numbered movement is equipped with a cylinder escapement and repeats the quarter hours.
The case and movement bear matching numbers, and the dial, cuvette and movement are signed.
