Gold split second chronograph

A fine and rare Swiss 14 carat gold open faced manual wound split second chronograph pocket watch made by Timing & Repeating Watch Company, circa 1890. The precision movement with a lever escapement. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute divisions with a concentric fifth of a second track, outermost Arabic five minute numerals, a sunk center, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, a 15 minute counter at 12 and partially replaced hands. A plain case. Dial signed, case and movement numbered.

Timing & Repeating Watch Company was a Swiss manufacturer of chronographs. Kathleen H. Pritchard writes in ‘Swiss Timepiece Makers 1775-1975’ that the Timing & Repeating Watch Co in Geneva manufactured chronographs almost identical to Waltham’s 1884 model with a mechanism by H.A. Lugrin (a patent from 1876 and 1880). It also mentions the possible connections between Timing & Repeating Watch Company, Henry Alfred Lugrin Sr, Longines and Albert C. Wittnauer.
