An English 18 carat gold open faced keyless pocket watch made by Sir John Bennett Ltd in London, London Hallmarked for 1898. The gilt ¾ plate movement with an English lever escapement, and a cut and compensated bimetallic balance. White enamel dial with Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued steel spade hands. The polished case is stamped P.W. Movement signed, case and movement with matching numbers. Comes with the original fitted presentation box.

Sir John Bennett, born on October 15th, 1814 and died July 3rd, 1897, was a watchmaker, local politician and flamboyant London personality. Although a qualified watchmaker, he was primarily involved in the retail side of the business, selling Bennett branded Swiss and English watches.
