An English 18 carat gold half hunting cased keyless pocket watch made by Sir John Bennett Ltd. in London, London Hallmarked for 1896. The movement with an English lever escapement. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued double spade hands. The polished hinged case with a Roman numeral chapter on the front and personal inscription on the inner back. Dial signed, case numbered, cuvette signed, movement signed and numbered, case and movement with matching numbers.

Sir John Bennett, born on October 15th, 1814 and died July 3rd, 1897, was a watchmaker, local politician and flamboyant London personality. Although a qualified watchmaker, he was primarily involved in the retail side of the business, selling Bennett branded Swiss and English watches.
