A fine Swiss silver open faced keyless chronograph pocket watch made by Agassiz Watch Co SA, circa 1940. The Swiss lever movement with 17 jewels, a cut and compensated bimetallic balance, swan neck regulation and one adjustment to isochronism. Black enamel dial with silvered Arabic hours, silvered outer minute divisions with Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, a 30 minute register at 12, syringe hands and a center chronograph hand. The polished case with a chronograph button in the crown. Dial, case and movement signed, case and movement with matching numbers.

The Agassiz family was a prominent Swiss family which included the scientists Louis and Alexander Agassiz, as well as Auguste Agassiz. Auguste was a watchmaker who founded the Longines watch company in 1833 in partnership with Florian Morel and Henri Raiguel. In the 1920s, the Agassiz name was relaunched as a high end alternative to Longines.
