An interesting, early Swiss pair cased verge pocket watch, circa 1690. Verge movement with very early hairspring, extraordinary pillars and magnificent verge cock. Decorative silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals and iron hands. Silver outer case, tortoiseshell nail decoration, plain inner case, opening button with jewel, master’s mark IPG. Dial and movement signed.

François Dentand was born in 1675. He was the son of David Dentant and Marie de Benetia. François was apprenticed as a watchmaker by Henri Arlaud and was himself Jean Gaudy’s master around 1700.
