Silver verge watch by François Terroux

An extremely rare Swiss silver verge pocket watch with alarm and rotating date display by a fusee going train, circa 1690. Very early verge movement, early hairspring, alarm on bell, extremely rare date indication by a rotating ring. Champlevé dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, central alarm disc, iron hands. Silver protection case, pierced round sound openings, splendid tendrils, in between vases and birds, bell. Movement signed.

The date display with a going train by a fusee, separate from the hand setting is extremely rare. Pocket watches with this complication are very rare and only a few examples are known.

François Terroux (1664-1743), son of Gabriel Terroux, was apprenticed to Jean-François Lachis in 1677 and became master in 1684.
