An exquisite Swiss 18 carat gold open faced lever pocket chronometer made by Audemars for the Russian Tsar, circa 1890. Glazed movement, Ankerchronometer escapement, especially large chronometer balance, screwed gold chatons, wolf’s toothing. Cuvette with a representation of the Russian Tsar’s coat of arms, inscribed Horlogers de Sa Majesté l’Emrereur de Russie, 14 diplomas and medals 1st Class. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, subsidiary seconds, blued steel hands. Engine-turned case. Dial signed, cuvette and movement signed and numbered, case and movement with matching numbers.
