Rose gold and platinum hunting cased keyless lever by Patek Philippe

A very fine, extremely rare and possibly unique Swiss 18 carat rose gold and platinum hunting cased keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1868. Sold on June 11, 1869. Frosted gilt movement, 15 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, straight-line moustache lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator. Cuvette and case signed. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and blued steel spade hands. Polished case, each cover outlined with two platinum filaments. Gold hinged cuvette. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.

The case of this watch is extremely unusual and probably quite unique, with the inclusion of platinum filaments in its construction. The effect is very subtle but would have entailed a large amount of extra work for the casemaker. The platinum filaments are recorded on the Extract from the Archives
