Pocket watch with stoppable seconds
–
A technically unusual pocket watch with seconde morte from an experimental series with extract from the archives, made by Patek, Philippe & Cie in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1868. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, has the Patek, Philippe punch and a monogram NE on the back lid. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, center seconds and blued steel hands. The glazed movement has an extremely rare anker chronometer escapement with two barrels, independent stoppable seconds which can be released and stopped by the pushers on the case band.
The case and movement have matching numbers.

The item presented here comes with an extract from the archives dated 2022, which confirms its originality. It is one of the rarest Patek Philippe pocket watches. The movement design shown here was built in very small numbers in 1867 and 1868 as an experimental series. All watches known to us have 27.000 numbers. Some watches were also equipped with the foudroyante complication. Some of them are now in the Patek Philippe Museum.
